INDIANAPOLIS – A woman caring for her two-year-old granddaughter was arrested on child neglect charges Tuesday after offering sexual favors to police responding to a welfare check, police said.
Police were called to the 6200 block of West Washington Street after getting a call about a toddler possibly in the care of an intoxicated adult.
When officers arrived at the address, police said the woman began cursing and screaming at the officers through a locked door.
After making entry into the residence, police said they found a nude woman, Jacqueline Burse, 53, and the crying toddler, also naked, on the bed.
Police said Burse attempted to assault officers and she was quickly handcuffed.
According to police records, Burse then offered to perform sexual favors on the officers.
Police called Child Protective Services to the scene to take custody of the toddler.
Burse was taken to the hospital, Marion County sheriff's deputies said.
She faces charges of child neglect and resisting law enforcement.
